Nasty lock-up!
My second computer locks up when Guild Wars starts, every now and then it will give you three seconds or so.
Specs
Geforce FX 5200
900Mhz AMD T-Bird processor
Sound card is... Hold on a second
Windows XP
(My brother uses it )
Im not sure what it is, Im thinking its the sound.

Could be that GW needs a 1Ghz processor. I mean, yeah, it's AMD, but GW and 900Mhz just might not jive.

since the minimum is 800 and AMD puts out more per clock he should be fine on the processor
it is locking up not simply running the game poorly

It says 800 as the minimum required.
And the SoundCard is Crystal SoundFusion.
I cant find the main website, and i dont know how to tell if its a 16 bit soundcard. Maybe i should switch to integrated.

Yes it is locking up, I left it running for 2 hours and it just sat there, nothing moved.
And my processor runs many games that require 1.4 ghz processors.

Try double clicking on my computer, right click on the C drive and open properties and then the tools tab. Run a disc check (error checking) and check off both boxes, it will ask you to run on reboot, should correct any system errors. Also run defrag on the system, it will help greatly.

I ran scandisk, It corrected over 40 things int the internet temporary files, I even cleaned out those files, and it still didnt work.
But the trashcan takes like a minute to start, must be a fragmentation.
I will try to defragment now.

If it were me I'd look at all my drivers and bios before thinking it's the sound, unless of course that's the one thing you haven't been able to find drivers for.

I always recommend the bios be left alone. With a board that old, the updates that could be available may cause more trouble than it's worth.
He may be able to update the drivers for XP compatability. One other point. If he ran scandisc, is the system still 32 bit or has it been converted to NTFS (which I doubt).

Okay hmmm, I just looking at the lock up. Many possibilities. He thought it was the sound so I was responding to that thinking. I tend to update everything thinking the new software like guildwars might need some more current information. But I'll just wait and see where it goes then.

Its FAT32, and I am familiar with the BOIS. The motherboard is a DFI AK75-EC.
It used to be my computer and I ran alot on it, with integrated sound.
And the sound card is the most suspicous, because I tried Nvida 61 and 71 drivers. So I doubt its the card.
The C drive is very fragmented.

I was gonna send you to a drivers forum regarding your sound drivers but it's a pay site now
Started about a year ago with an e-machine 566i, crystal audio on that one. Couldn't find the driver anywhere, looked under another name at those forums that used to be free and found the driver, that solved the problem. Anyway, let's see where what you're doing goes, maybe that'll take care of it right there.
*Edit* I am sure you are aware there is a compatibility issue with the gforce 5200 serious right? Mine is PCI and I haven't had a problem but that might be what's going on with yours. I believe there is info on that, or was, at the GuildWars main site. .
*Edit Again*

Thanks for trying Sin.. Its running off of windows drivers now. That may be the problem.
SubNote, The defrag is taking forever on MP3s, they dont look lime music files, they look like a sound library. They cant be that large but its taking forever to move them.

Convert a volume to NTFS from the command prompt
Shut down any automated start programs like virus scans, chat programs, etc until the conversion is complete.
Open Command Prompt.
In the command prompt window, type
convert (drive_letter: ) C: /fs:ntfs
For example, typing convert C: /fs:ntfs would format drive C: with the ntfs format.

Mine is VGA and the problem on the FAQ has to do with invisable terrain.
And toke, ive heard bad things about NTFS, most pcs stick with FAT32.
And i cannot afford to format unless the problem spreads out to more then Guild Wars.

Regarding the 5200, neither I nor my friend whom I built 2 computers for with 5200's has had any problems. The problem lies in the newest drivers (71.84) not in the card. I still use 61.77 and they work great. Eariler versions back to 45.33 work great too on older, slower systems..

when you ran scan disk did it indicate any "cross linked" files or you just let it autofix and have no idea what all it fixed?

Ok, I understand. I stopped running fat32 about a year ago when I was sure that the problems were resolved. I still use Norton Utilities on all of my systems (personally) to clean the registry and "speed disc". Does a better job than Winblows. ALL of my client's run NTSF, since it is standard on all pre-builts from the manuf. now.
If you can give me exactly what sound card you have, I may have drivers on one of my library cd's.
